Goodson Associates was appointed in 2021 as part of the design team to design an eight-storey steel frame residential and commercial block for 141 WRS Ltd. in partnership with Cheval Hotels in Glasgow City Centre.
The structure will serve as hotel residential apartments with retail units at ground floor, including a restaurant and gym.
The tight city centre site has a number of challenges particularly at foundation level forming a basement structure and piling in close proximity to an underground Network Rail tunnel.
Location: Glasgow
Client: Cheval Hotels
Value: £ 7 Million
Project Dates: 2023
The design philosophy is to utilise a reinforced concrete stair core to provide lateral stability for the steel frame, the core will be supported by a piled raft slab. The upper floors will consist of a composite floor slab supported on primary and secondary steel beams, acting as diaphragms at each floor level.
The external envelope will typically be a metal stud inner leaf supporting a mixture of lightweight and stone cladding outer leaf. Reinforced concrete retaining walls are proposed along the West Regent Street and West Campbell Street boundaries to form the basement walls.
