Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc is a refurbishment of the old Michelin tyre factory in Dundee. The idea behind it was to refurbish the existing buildings and design a new collaborative space located on the east side of MSIP, at the main entrance of the Innovation Parc.
The project won the award for the Best Sustainable Design Project at the Scottish Structural Awards 2024.

With sustainability in mind the building was constructed using glulam and cross laminated timber (CLT) in place of conventional steel construction. Both materials used are a natural alternative to steel, concrete, and plasterboard, and are manufactured offsite to precise size specifications, resulting in ‘very little to no’ waste in the construction phase. The choice of timber in place of conventional steel construction has saved an estimated 650 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The use of these natural materials from sustainably managed forests reduces the buildings carbon footprint in two ways. Firstly, less carbon dioxide is generated during the production of Glulam and CLT than conventional building materials. Secondly, the use of wood as the principal building material locks away the carbon it contains for the lifetime of the building.
