
Goodson Associates was appointed as part of the team to design the new Monifieth Learning Campus as a tandem build on the site of the existing Monifieth High School. Having gained a wealth of knowledge and experience on our previous PassivHAUS projects, we were delighted to apply the experience to a concrete framed building.
A concrete frame was selected for the majority of the structure, utilising the efficiencies of a PT slab and precast concrete columns. This structural solution minimises the requirements for downstand beams within the ceiling services zone.
To achieve long spans over the games hall an infill steel roof was provided.
Similarly, we incorporated a single storey steel frame at ground floor to achieve the long spans over the swimming pool and plantroom.
To comply with PassivHAUS requirements the interface between the main school building and the swimming pool has been detailed with a SFS wall and thermally broken roller shutter between the pool and the changing village.
Creating a Passivhaus swimming pool of steel construction involved early and robust detailing.
This project was delievered through HUB EC in partnership with Robertson Construction who we are also currently delivering the nearby East End Campus Passivhaus project with alongside Holmes Miller Architects.
